NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Jim Inhofe, known primarily for his diatribes against the environmental movement, has temporarily shifted his attention to the food stamp program.
Recently, he introduced his Food Stamp Restoration Act which would make it extremely difficult for those in the program to receive benefits without undergoing major hassles.
One of the act’s restrictive provisions requires drug testing for all prospective recipients. This is based on the false assumption that fraud prevails in the program. To the contrary, the USDA reported that fraud cases in 2011 included only one tenth of one percent of program participants.
The Food Stamp Restoration Act is one more example of why Inhofe reigns supreme as champion of the unenlightened and one who is never bothered by the facts.
