NORMAN — An honor dinner for local veterans of the Korean War was hosted on the 60th anniversary of the July 27, 1953, Armistice that ended the conflict. Norman American Legion Post 88 hosted the event, which was attended by 70 veterans, including 27 Korean War veterans, their family and friends.
Each veteran was presented a commemorative coin from the post by Commander Ernest Martin. The dinner was Post 88’s thank you for their service during the years 1950-1953.
Roy Hamilton and Charles Goins presented a slide show with some scenes from their service during the war. They spoke about their experiences and encouraged others present to share stories. Post 88 has previously hosted honor dinners for veterans of WWII and Vietnam. Plans are being made to continue the dinners for veterans of the more recent conflicts around the world.
