NORMAN — Parents Helping Parents will present two local events at the Education Center at Norman Regional Hospital, 901 North Porter in Norman.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, “Pleasure Unwoven,” a free film viewing will be screened with a question and answer session with Dr. Kevin McCauley. The information will be beneficial to families affected by addiction as well as for therapists, doctors, pastors, teachers, law enforcement and others.

The film is the brainchild of Dr. Kevin McCauley with The Institute of Addiction Study. A graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, McCauley explores arguments for and against this vital debate, reviewing the latest neuro-scientific research about addiction along the way.

He turns complex neuro-scientific concepts into easy-to-understand visual images that help those addicted and those in recovery feel more understood, thus giving hope to many. While working as a flight surgeon McCauley treated pilots with alcohol and drug problems. Today, as a physician he advocates strongly for the rights of addicts as patients.

On Friday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, “The Brain and Recovery and Addiction Recovery Management” workshop for therapists and clinicians will take place with three hours continuing education units. Cost is $30 and participants may register online at www.pleasureunwoven.eventbrite.com. It is approved CEUs for LPC, LMFT, LADC, CADC & LCSW.
