Noble student in junior rodeo

NORMAN — Ali Armstrong, an eighth-grader at Noble Public School, traveled this week with the Oklahoma junior high rodeo team to Gallup, N.M., to compete in the barrel racing competition at the ninth annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo.

Armstrong is the daughter of Michael Armstrong, Kingston and Clifford and Andrea Chastain, Lexington.

More than 1,000 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, will compete for more than $75,000 in prizes and $100,000 in college scholarships. Contestants who finish in the top 20 — based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds — will advance to this evening’s final round. National champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

The championship performance today will be televised nationally as part of the CinchTown Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NJHFR performance also will air online at NHSRATV.com, powered by iHigh.com. Performance times are 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Armstrong is an honor student. She is a member of the Oklahoma Junior High Honor Society and Gifted and Talented. She also is a member of the Noble Roundup Club, NBHA District 05 and MRCA.

She is the granddaughter of Millie Armstrong, Kingston, Shane Shaw, Madill, Bill and Marion Talbert, Dover, Ark., Richard and Lucy Chastain, Eufaula, Deanie Jay, Wellington, Kan., and Maxine Gardner, Norman.
