Guard plans career fair in Norman

NORMAN — The Oklahoma National Guard’s Employment Coordination Program is hosting an evening career fair for all veterans, current service members and their family members today at the Norman Armed Forces Reserve Center.

The free event will host more than 70 employers with immediate employment opportunities. Job seekers and employers can register for the event at: www.okngecp.com. Attendees can interact with companies from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free child care services will be available.

The event will take be at the Norman Armed Forces Reserve Center near Tecumseh Road and Interstate 35 in Norman at 4000 Thunderbird St. Media are invited to attend the job fair, and military leaders will be available for interview.

The career fair will allow anyone currently occupied during the day to attend. Many people may want to attend job fairs because they are underemployed, said Lt. Col. Warren Griffis, the Oklahoma National Guard ECP director.

“Career fairs are an excellent way for job seekers to interact with potential employers on a personal level,” Griffis said. “It presents a much more relaxed environment than a job interview and gives the employer a face to go with the many names submitted on job applications.”
