Technology center board meets

NORMAN — Weapons policy updates, state funding and a five-year strategic plan were the topics of note at the Moore Norman Technology Center Board meeting Thursday evening.

Superintendent Jane Bowen said bringing the Dangerous Weapons Policy to the board was protocol for policy review and outlined basic changes made, making the policy more thorough.

“The updated policy outlines more specifically the definition of a dangerous weapon as well as procedures if a situation involving one arises,” Bowen said. “I can tell you that aspects and language in this will likely change.”

Bowen mentioned that allowances for classroom equipment can be made under the policy, but items like scalpels for medical courses must be accounted for and expressly permitted by her signature.

Additionally, Bowen expressed gratitude at a $3 million increase in state funding to the career technology system’s total budget but was careful to mention that “compared to the $109 million budget, that’s not very much money.”

The five-year strategic plan examined the school’s approach to management of staff and education, prioritizing Economic Development, Relationships and Innovative Technology for the center (in summary).

Lastly, the board voted to elect Tom Dieghton, Howard Hampton, Terry Grissom, Jeff Mills and Willa Jo Fowler as new members of the board of directors of the Oklahoma Public School Investment Interlocal Cooperative.
