NORMAN — NPS finishes making up snow days

With the use of President’s Day as a designated snow day on Monday, Norman Public Schools made up for the five snow days it incurred — to date — during the current school year.

So far this school year, the district has canceled school for five days because of inclement winter weather. Two of the lost days were made up by students attending school on the first two designated snow days on the Board of Education-adopted 2013-14 school calendar. The other three lost days were made up using accumulated, additional instructional minutes to the school day.

State law allows districts to meet the minimum requirement for a school year using either minutes or days to calculate their school year.

NPS’ extra minutes account for six instructional days for this school year, and the calendar includes four designated snow days. Thus, NPS can incur 10 lost school days due to inclement weather this school year without having to adjust its school calendar at the end of the school year to meet state requirements.

Bloomberg to host financial aptitude test

University of Oklahoma students will join the ranks of 130,000 global test takers from more than 1,500 universities when they take the Bloomberg Aptitude Test on Friday.

The free testing session will be hosted by Bloomberg LP. After registering at takethebat.com, students should report from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday to OU’s Adams Hall, Room 300.

The test represents an opportunity for college students and recent graduates to find employment in finance or general business with minimal time investment. Test takers receive a detailed score report for resumes and interviews, and student profiles are also placed into Bloomberg’s Talent Search job recruitment database.

The test features 100 multiple choice questions that evaluate students’ abilities as relative to a career in finance. All questions on the test assess aptitude rather than knowledge, so background in finance is not necessary to succeed.
