Newly elected Norman City Council members will be sworn in at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The city meeting schedule will be light this week because of the holiday, but in addition to the swearing in, a special thank-you reception for all volunteers serving on Norman’s many boards and commissions, as well as a good-bye to three outgoing city council members, also is slated for Tuesday.
The reception will start at 5 p.m. with words by the mayor at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the swearing in of new council members, outgoing members will be honored in a special ceremony. The council also will select a mayor pro tem, representatives for the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments and a trustee for the employee retirement board.
Cleveland County Commissioners will meet as usual at 1 p.m. Monday. The Cleveland County Courthouse will be closed July 4. City offices also will be closed, but Norman’s trash pick up will remain on a regular schedule during the July 4 holiday.
Norman fireworks will start at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Ave. Other activities start at 4 p.m. and will include food booths, a baby crawl, nickel find, moon bounces, pony rides and more. Full Circle will perform from 5-7 p.m. and Nicnos will play from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The community event is free to the public.
A Celebration in the Heartland is an outdoor festival in Moore from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4.
