Firefighters rescue 2 dogs in house fire

NORMAN — A family sat on a street curb across from their smoke-filled home, clutching two small dogs firefighters rescued while hot spots were hosed down.

Norman firefighters responded to the residential fire Thursday afternoon on the corner of Shiloh Drive and Pamela Circle in southeast Norman. No injuries were reported. While two dogs were rescued, two also were lost in the fire, according to Norman Fire Chief James Fullingim.

The fire was called in around 2 p.m. Thursday at 1707 Pamela Circle. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in a matter of minutes, Fullingim said.

The fire damaged a bedroom, a hallway and part of the home’s attic. A neighbor a few houses down said he reported the fire to the police.

“I saw smoke coming out of the window and I saw the guy run out of the house and asked if he had it under control,” neighbor Dylan Ricketts said, “but everything started catching on fire.”

Fullingim said preliminary damage estimates for house are $50,000.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Norman Fire Marshal’s Office.
