NORMAN — NPS All-City Band Concert

Norman Public Schools will present its 54th annual All-City Band Concert at 7:30 p.m. May 24 in the Lloyd Noble Center. The concert will showcase approximately 800 band students in grades sixth through 12th.

The concert will feature a variety of music including “Afro Blue” by M. Santamaria, arranged by Michael Mossman, “Gadget” by Randall Standridge and “Currents” by Robert W. Smith.

The concert will end with a combined performance of “American Testament,” arranged by Norman’s own nationally recognized composer and arranger Jerry Neil Smith.

The concert will be conducted by Alcott Middle School director Seth Coleman, Irving Middle School director Bill Funke, Longfellow Middle School director Martha Griffith, Whittier Middle School director Heather Bellows, Norman High School directors Jim Meiller and Joel Deardorf, Norman North High School directors Trent Davis and Matt Hedrick and district band coordinator Roger Nunn.

Tickets are $3 for adults and no charge for students. Norman Instrumental Music Parents Association members will be admitted free. Tickets go on sale at 6:30 p.m. and will be available at the east entrance.

NPS All-City Orchestra

Norman Public Schools will present its 54th annual All-City Orchestra Concert at 7:30 p.m. March 25 in the Lloyd Noble Center The concert will showcase approximately 1,000 orchestra students in grades fifth through 12th.

The concert will feature a wide variety of music, including “Boogie in the Straw” by Frank Halferty, “Highlights from “Mary Poppins” arranged by Fredrick Muller and “Selections from Grease” arranged by Calvin Custer. The concert will end with a combined performance of “Through the Twinkling Stars” arranged by Brian K. Shepard.

The concert will be conducted by elementary strings directors Marty Dalton and Mark Osborn, Alcott Middle School director Dawn Thrailkill, Irving Middle School director Kay Kirtley, Longfellow Middle School director Steve Waddell, Whittier Middle School director Kay Jenkins, Norman High School directors Jean Statham and Jim Meiller and Norman North High School director Brenda Wagner.
