Area teachers receive grants from OGE Energy Corp.

NORMAN — Two Norman teachers, Mary Neff and Torrie Warren, are among the 35 OGE Teacher Grant winners across the company’s service territory in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Neff, a first-grade teacher at Madison Elementary, won a grant for her project, “Scientifically Fluent.”

By using science vocabulary readers, students will explore facts about the human body, and the life cycles of plants, animals and insects. The grant also will fund the use of “All Kinds of Animals” vocabulary readers, complete with illustrations and activities. The “Wild Weather” readers are full of photos, features and simple text to allow young students to explore weather phenomena.

Warren will use her grant to purchase a variety of kits and hands-on materials for her first-grade students at Monroe Elementary.

OGE Energy has funded more than 330 projects for teachers since launching its Teacher Grant Program in 2003. The program is available to public school teachers from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Applications for project grants up to $1,000 are typically available at the beginning of a calendar year for funding the next school year.
