NORMAN — Norman resident Ken Ellis will present a free seminar on “Diabetes Self-management: Be Motivated, Stay in Control and Feel Good” at the Norman Public Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 1.
Participants will learn strategies for staying motivated to do what’s necessary on a daily basis. Research and insights on daily checking blood glucose levels, moving more, eating good foods to maintain normal blood sugar levels and planning ahead will be given with PowerPoint slides. An insight for diabetes self-management from the way of wisdom from Proverbs also will be given.
Ellis, of Norman, is a 52-year survivor of diabetes, being diagnosed when he was in the first grade. For more than 20 years, he has facilitated hospital and community diabetes support groups and has helped hundreds of people in three states.
He has participated in the 50-year Medalist Research Study at the Joslin Diabetes Center, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston.
