NORMAN — Today is the deadline for candidates for state and county offices to register to vote or to change voter registration to be a qualified candidate for next year’s statewide elections.
State law requires that all candidates be registered to vote in the district in which they are running for the six-month period immediately preceding the first day of the filing period.
Since the state and county filing period will begin on April 9 the last day that potential candidates may register or change their registration is today.
“Anyone considering the possibility of running for state or county office needs to be aware of this important upcoming deadline,” said Jim Williams, County Election Board secretary. “Potential candidates should verify their registration and confirm their eligibility for office by (today).”
Anyone needing to register or change their registration must fill out an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form and return it to the Cleveland County Election Board.
The registration forms can be dropped off in person until 5 p.m. today or must be postmarked Oct. 8.
Registration forms are available at the Election Board Office, 641 E. Robinson St., Suite 200, or can be obtained at clevelandcountyelectionboard.com.
