OU names student media director

NORMAN — A former editor of The Oklahoma Daily has been named Director of OU Student Media.

Nicholas Jungman, currently the managing editor of the Wichita Business Journal and formerly Deputy Editor of The Wichita Eagle, Jungman has extensive experience in media and has also been on the forefront of exploring the possibilities of digital media.

Announcement of Jungman’s appointment, which is subject to the approval of the OU Board of Regents, was made this past week by Susan Sasso, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Dean of Students.

“The search committee was pleased to have an excellent pool of candidates for the position,” Sasso said. “We are excited about Nick’s passion to return to OU and Student Media, coupled with his innovative experience in professional media and his long-term vision of excellence for OU Student Media. Nick views a media operation holistically and ultimately sees audience dev`elopment as the key to a quality product and financial viability.”

In addition to his professional media experience, Jungman has nine years of university-level teaching experience at Wichita State University, Newman University and Missouri School of Journalism where he served as a Knight Visiting Editor for two years.

As a student at the University of Oklahoma, Jungman was a National Merit Scholar and during his tenure as editor, The Oklahoma Daily won two Pacemaker Awards, the nation’s top honor for university newspapers.

Jungman is active in the American Copy Editors Society and has presented regularly at national conferences.
