NORMAN — The Norman Children’s Chorus and the Norman North High School Chorale will present a Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster Ave.

The public is invited and admission is free. The concert is funded in part by grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Norman Arts Council.

This is the sixth collaboration with Norman North. The children’s chorus traditionally alternates sharing the fall concert with choirs from OU and Norman North High School. Many of the singers in the NNHS Chorale are former members of NCC.

For NCC, this concert represents the first performance of the season. Each choir will present pieces individually. At the end of the concert, all singers will come together for two pieces.

NCC and NNHS will sing “Non Nobis, Domine” by William Byrd and “Shout for Joy,” a traditional spiritual, arranged by Patrick Liebergen.

The NCC, a program of Children’s Arts Network Inc., is open to students in grades three through eight. The Chamber Choir is open by audition to fourth- through eighth-graders, and the Descant Choir is open to all children in grades three and above who wish to sing. The chorus meets on Monday evenings at Alcott Middle School.

The conductor is Sandy Knudson, music teacher at Adams Elementary School and a Kodaly specialist. Lynn Manning, associate conductor, is music teacher in the Moore Public Schools. Beth Grimmett-Tankersley and Jennifer Tripi serve as accompanists, and Taylor Rodgers and Amanda Ortiz are OU interns.

The Norman North High School Chorale has established a tradition of musical excellence in its 15 years under the direction of Tony Gonzalez. It has earned consecutive State Sweepstakes Awards and won major festivals in Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Texas, New Orleans, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York City.

The Chorale has been selected as an OMEA Honor Choir six times. It has appeared at the ACDA national convention in New York City in 2003 and Miami in 2007, the Kansas City SWACDA in 2008 and the ACDA Convention in Oklahoma City in March 2009.
