NORMAN — Environmental officials have declared Saturday an Ozone Alert Day in the Norman area, according to the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit service.
The declaration marks the third straight day officials have sent out notice.
Because of air quality concerns, CART announced it will offer fare-free service all day Saturday.
All routes, including CART’s Sooner Express runs to Oklahoma City, and CARTaccess, the origin-to-destination service for the elderly and disabled, will be fare free.
METROtransit of Oklahoma City will not offer free fare on alert days on its two runs of the Sooner Express.
Air quality concerns prompted officials to alert the public of increased levels of air pollution in the central Oklahoma region. Automobiles and gasoline-powered engines are one source of these pollutants, so residents are encouraged to reduce air pollution by riding the bus.
