University center is opening collaborative space

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma’s Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth is opening a 2500-square-foot collaborative space for students, researchers and members of the Norman and greater Oklahoma City business and creative communities to learn, create and connect in the areas of technology and leadership.

Located in OU’s Research Campus, “The Center” offers co-working space as well as daily programming focused on skill and professional development, networking and community engagement.

The center’s launch event, which is open to the public at no cost, will be 4:30 p.m. today at Three Partners Place, 201 David L. Boren Blvd., Suite 100, on the OU Research Campus.

For more information, contact Samantha Toth at s-toth@ou.edu.

The center was created by a cross-section of university leaders to be a catalyst for ideation and innovation in the central Oklahoma area.

The center features co-working space, workshops, seminars and networking events designed to promote collaborative learning and creation. Examples include “Introduction to Web Design,” a web design and development workshop open to programmers and non-programmers, and “Communicate Like a Boss,” an executive-style communication seminar.

Users of the space also have access to mentorship and consulting resources from OU’s Price College of Business, the OU College of Engineering. The OU College of Law has joined “The Center” to further integrate its focus on project-based learning opportunities for students. Weekly spotlight lectures will offer community members the opportunity to learn about research and technological development under way at the research campus.

“Since 2006, OU’s Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth has facilitated tremendous economic and social impact across Oklahoma by growing technology-based companies via thousands of real-world learning collaborations between interdisciplinary students, faculty and alumni,” said Daniel Pullin, university vice president for strategic planning and economic development. “The Center’s next chapter furthers OU’s innovation ecosystem on the research campus by enhancing the physical and programmatic ecology for private, governmental and university innovators to work together to grow and diversify our state and national economy.”
