NORMAN — Two new stores will be opening in Norman on Sunday in University Town Center at 24th Avenue Northwest and Rock Creek Road.

HomeGoods will open their doors at 8 a.m., and Michaels will kick Sunday off with a ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m. with doors opening at 10 a.m.

The new Michaels store replaces a former location at 520 Ed Noble Parkway. The first 100 customers in line at the relocated arts and crafts store will receive free gift cards and the store will give away prizes hourly throughout the day.

Michaels customers also can win items for the whole family from the prize wheel, which includes jewelry, art supplies, stickers and more. The celebration will continue through the week with gift basket giveaways every night. Kids crafting events will be offered on Saturdays for $2.

HomeGoods is donating $5,000 to Infant Crisis Services Inc. — an organization that provides formula, food and diapers to babies and toddlers in times of crisis — in honor of the grand opening.

“Our associates have been very busy getting the store ready for the grand opening. The 25,000-square-foot store will offer more than 30,000 pieces of home decor and accessories,” said Phil Tracey with HomeGoods media relations. “The store will offer designer and brand name home fashions as well as unique pieces from around the world at prices at up to 60 percent less than department or specialty prices, every day.”

Tracey said the store is in the process of hiring up to 60 full- and part-time associates.

The new Michaels store also will employ about 60 people.

“We chose the area because it is a vibrant community,” he said. “We are excited to be able to offer area residents tremendous values on high-quality décor for every room of the home.”

HomeGoods operates more than 430 stores across the country and is a division of The TJX Companies Inc. The company operates more than 3,000 stores, including T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post stores as well as in the United States.
