NORMAN — The newly expanded Queen of Hart’s Costume and Dancewear will be open for extended hours in October just in time for a happily haunted Halloween.
Want to scare your friends with mangled zombie goo erupting from your limbs? A newly expanded emporium of hard-to find costumes, wigs, masks and makeup — as well as essential dance shoes, leotards, tights and accessories — now offers even more costume choices.
Originally opened in 2012 by Kris Ocker, longtime costume designer for the Sooner Theatre, Queen of Harts Costumes expanded its space into the adjacent store this summer to offer a wide variety of dancewear, hosiery, tutus, dance shoes and hair accessories.
The entire 4,000-plus square foot space, on 24th Avenue Southwest just north of Lindsey Street, has undergone a dramatic transformation, with large fitting rooms, expanded inventory and expert staff to meet every need from a good Halloween costume to professional-grade theatrical makeup.
The costume rental stock has been refined and expanded with the recent acquisition of costumes from local productions of Bye Bye Birdie and White Christmas. There are costumes in a staggering variety of themes, including Elvis, SteamPunk, Clowns, Cowboys, Davy Jones from “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Fred Flintstone.
Queen of Harts serves local high school drama departments, mystery theater patrons and sorority and fraternity theme parties as well as providing a selection of Halloween costumes.
The stock of dancewear comes highly recommended by area dance schools, OU ballet and musical theater departments.
Queen of Harts offers costumes for rent, stage makeup by Ben Nye and Rubies, dance shoes by Capezio and Bloch, wigs for men and women in many period styles, and mascots for holiday parties or kid’s birthdays.
The shop, 924 24th Ave. SW, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday throughout October. Hours will return to normal business hours after that.
