NORMAN — O’Connell’s Irish Pub, 769 Asp Ave., on Campus Corner isn’t letting OU’s Spring Break schedule get in the way of its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

The pub’s owner, Jeff Stewart, said planning for the event started well before the first of the year. T-shirts and glassware are ordered in early January.

The band lineup is finalized in February.  Long before the doors open at 7 a.m. Sunday party goers will line up to get the ‘Irish reen suds’, ‘green eggs and ham breakfast and souvenir mugs and shirts.

The first truckload of souvenir mugs arrived in Oklahoma City Wednesday and second load left Dallas Thursday.

The same printer has been printing the mugs for more than 20 years.

The Green Beer arrived in OKC on Wednesday and a little was used for the St. Patrick’s Day Event on Thursday.

The rest of the ‘Irish Green Suds’ will be delivered at 5 a.m. Sunday just prior to the party.

The eggs have been ordered and will be delivered Friday.  Stewart said, “our kitchen staff will do their magic to make these match the Dr. Seuss story ‘Green Eggs and Ham.’” Egg preparation begins at 4 a.m. There should be enough eggs to last until almost noon.

The design for the mug and T-shirt was done with Hardedge Printing Norman.  The design must incorporate ‘Lucky,’ the O’Connell’s character and the theme for the annual event on a green shirt.  This year’s theme is ‘Mugs, Music and More.’

The design depicts Lucky with a guitar holding up two mugs of clovers.  Stewart said, “Hardedge seems to always create a great design to fit the theme and this year they did it again.”

Nine bands have been booked beginning at 1 p.m.
