Full ballots Tuesday in Norman, Moore

NORMAN — Norman and Moore voters have some important decisions to make Tuesday.

Voters in 13 of Norman’s precincts will select between Gary Barksdale and Cindy Nashert for seat 3 of the Norman School Board, with a total of 13,706 voters eligible.

Moore Public School district voters will decide on the largest bond proposal in the district’s history, a five-year bond of $126.4 million for two new elementary schools, a new junior high school, transportation equipment, facilities expansion and security updates.

MPS administration has expressed confidence in its passage based upon the community’s historic support of education and rapid growth in the Moore area. According to The Moore American, cost to taxpayers would be approximately $12 annually for every $100,000 in home value.

Moore and Norman school district voters also will have important fiscal and governmental decisions to make for their shared career tech institution, the Moore Norman Technology Center.

Three items will come before area voters concerning MNTC: the selection between school board candidates Tammy Maus and Andy Sherrer, whether to add an additional mill to the current four-mill levy and, pending the mill addition, whether it will be a permanent adjustment.

The increased cost to each taxpayer could range between $0.67 and $1.67, proportionate to the assessed home value, and the increase to MNTC’s budget is estimated at $1.7 million.

Superintendent Jane Bowen said that the additional funds will bolster facility remodeling, construction, equipment purchases and potentially teacher salaries.

Information on precincts, ballots and voting locations can be accessed at www.clevelandcountyelectionboard.com or by calling 366-0210. Election results will be live-streaming Tuesday at www.
