NORMAN — For the 25th year, thte Norman Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association is sponsoring the Loving Links Tree at Sooner Mall.

The “Loving Links” tradition was started in 1987 by ABWA members.

The idea was to link Norman residents in need of help with people who want to give back to the community during the Christmas holiday.

The Loving Links Tree is decorated with ornaments describing people in need of a boost at Christmas. Those participating can select an ornament that lists a sex, age and size designation. People then buy for a specific individual.

ABWA asks people to adopt individuals in the Options Program at the Moore Norman Vo-Tech and the Battered Women’s Shelter.

“We encourage all of our past donors to come by again this Christmas season,” said Jo Ann Arps, an event organizer. “For our regular donors and for people who just want to help, join us in trying to give a Christmas to people who are often overlooked by other charities. Pick a link, link your efforts to others to help an individual this Christmas.”

Donors also can contribute to the Sock-Glove Box.

“We will be accepting donations of socks and gloves for the Cleveland County Juvenile Shelter and Cleveland County Community Center for Children & Families,” Arps said.

ABWA members will man a table near the Sears entrance to the mall during regular mall hours Saturday and Sunday. The weekend of Dec. 15-16 will be the last weekend for the tree.

“We aren’t a very big group, but we do big things with this event,” Arps said.
