Area voters to speak out on election day

NORMAN — Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.today for the city of Norman Municipal, city of Lexington General and city of Newcastle General Elections.

Cleveland County Election Board Secretary Jim Williams said 240 people voted early on Friday and 319 voted on Monday. Only seven of those votes were cast in the Lexington election and none were in Newcastle. Most were voting in the Norman city council and mayoral election.

Today, voters may use their Voter Identification Card as proof of identity, even though it does not have a photo. Other Identification used to prove identity must be issued by the state of Oklahoma, the federal government or a federally recognized Indian tribe or nation.

State law requires voters to prove their identities before they are allowed to vote. Documents, other than a voter ID card, used for proof of identity must include voter name (which must match the voter’s name on the registration record), a photograph and an expiration date that is later than the election day.
