NORMAN — Legacy Park signal coming online

Norman Traffic Control Division will activate the new traffic signal at the 24th Avenue Northwest intersection with Legacy Park Drive on Nov. 14, weather permitting.

After 9 a.m., all movements through the intersection will be controlled by the new signal. The intersection will serve development on the east side of 24th Avenue Northwest as well as Legacy Park, which is under construction on the west side of 24th Avenue.

Major portions of the development along the east side of 24th Avenue are nearing completion, making the activation of the traffic signal necessary.

Higher ed governance studied

Oklahoma Speaker T.W. Shannon conducted a study this week on higher education’s governance structure and student success.

Officials from Oklahoma’s public universities testified regarding student success, board structure, administrative costs, general academic goals and education affordability.

· Findings: Strong boards coupled with strong presidents equal strong institutions. Rich Novak of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges said it would benefit Oklahoma’s higher education institutions if board members were selected based on merit. He said nominees should be evaluated through a vetting process.
