NORMAN — Emily Frech and Sarah Tippett have been named March Students of the Month by the Norman Rotary Club.
Tippett, the daughter of Lisa and Jason Tippett, attends Norman North High School. Frech, daughter of Rober and Cheryl Frech, attends Norman High School.
Tippett has a 3.8 GPA, is active in drama and theatre. She credits an 8th grade drama club where she had a role and was stage manager with sparking her interest. “I found myself in a rare place of getting to learn about theatre both on and off stage at the same time,” she wrote in her application. “When I entered high school, theatre provided a home in the new world I was now in,” she said.
Besides theatre her activities include FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), National Honor Society, choir, Girl Scouts and religious education.
She is considering attending the University of Dayton.
Frech, who has a 4.0 GPA, counts NHS band and drumline as the school activity she enjoys the most. “I began my NHS band career as an awkward, self-conscious freshman dwarfed by my enormous snare drum,” she wrote in her application. “This year I begin my final season for Norman High as band president and captain of the drumline.”
Besides band and orchestra and drumline, Frech has been active in Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and psychology club. She has received National Merit, art and writing awards, Quartz Mountain orchestra and is an AP Scholar with distinction.
She volunteers with the Norman Safety Town, is a translator for the Christmas Store, Teen Advisors of Norman and CCFI.
Frech is considering attending Northwestern, Duke, Michigan, Cornell, USC, Harvard, Minnesota, UC Berkeley, Columbia and Dartmouth.
The Norman Rotary Club, chartered in 1919, meets at noon each Thursday at First Christian Church.
