Golf scramble to benefit Meals on Wheels of Norman

NORMAN — It’s time once again for the Rivermont Retirement Community Meals on Wheels of Norman Golf Scramble at The Trails Golf Club on July 21.

The scramble will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at The Trails Golf Club in Norman.

Participants will take a chance at hitting a hole-in-one to win $10,000 cash, sponsored by Tyler Signs & Outdoor Advertising or a Rolex watch, sponsored by Brockhaus Jewelry.

All proceeds will go to help provide meals to the ill, disabled and elderly clients of Meals on Wheels, a United Way of Norman agency.

Summer McGuire, associate director of Meals on Wheels of Norman said 27 teams have registered to participate in the scramble this year.

“This is our third year to hold the scramble at The Trails. The event seems to grow each year with new participants eager to become involved, support, and learn more about Meals on Wheels of Norman,” said McGuire.

Sports Talk 1400 AM will host a live remote from 6-9 a.m. with Dusty Dvoracek at The Trails Golf Club to prepare for the shotgun start of the scramble.

McGuire explains that having Rivermont Retirement Community and Trails Golf Club, as hosts of the scramble, Meals on Wheels is able to reduce their expenses and serve seniors in need.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to have our scramble at The Trails Golf Club again this year,” said McGuire. “Last year we had so much positive feedback about the course and hospitality at The Trails, we were so excited when they invited us back again for this year.”

The majority of Meals on Wheels’ clients live on fixed incomes or social security alone and with the increase in cost of living, our clients are finding it even more difficult to afford the minimum price for their meals.
