Rebuild Moore expo planned

NORMAN — When property owners rush to rebuild homes damaged by tornadoes, they’ll often overlook important details, such as energy efficiency and storm resistance, sustainability expert T.O. Bowman said. Now, help is available.

The Rebuild Moore Expo put on by Oklahoma City’s office of Sustainability will have information and answers to homeowners’ questions. The free expo will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at Westmoore High School. The event is open to anyone interested in rebuilding or repairing a building.

“A lot of times you can get caught up in rebuilding your home to try to find the consistency that your life had previous to the storms as quick as possible,” said T.O. Bowman, program coordinator for OKC Office of Sustainability.

This expo will help homeowners learn about how to rebuild their homes in a way that will save them money and help protect them from storms in the future.

“It’s not that people don’t want to know these things, it’s just that they don’t know where to find it,” he said.

This expo is meant to bring necessary information to the property owners so they don’t have to worry about finding it.

Speakers will discuss topics including insurance coverage, selecting homebuilders, installing storm shelters, post-disaster stormwater quality issues and building homes storm and wind-resistent as well as personal rebuilding stories from people affected by the 2011 tornado in Joplin.
