NORMAN — Saturday marks the beginning of registration for Safety Town classes at Sooner Mall.
Safety Town, a 37-year Norman tradition, teaches children, ages 5 and 6, the importance of bicycle, fire and personal safety. Classes are 50 minutes long and are free.
Safety Town classes are conducted in a “safety village,” located on the northeast corner of the Sooner Mall parking lot. Classes are conducted by the Norman Police Department and include visiting instructors from the Norman Fire Department and EMSStat.
Each Safety Town session consists of three classes offered at 9 a.m., 10:10 and 11:20 Monday through Friday. Class sessions run June 2-6, 9-13, 16-20 and 23-27. Evening classes are hosted the weeks of June 2 and June 16, beginning at 6.
The first day of registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday north of the Children’s Play Area in Sooner Mall. To participate in classes, children must be 5 years old no later than June 1, 2014, and cannot turn 7 before July 1, 2014.
After Saturday, individuals may register online at soonermall.com.
Safety Town is presented by Sooner Mall and the city of Norman with the assistance of local sponsors Sooner Rotary Club, Al’s Bicycles, Signs Now, Hard Edge Design, Sooner Bloomers and Chick-fil-A.
