Hosts for multi-artist display will be Shevaun Williams, Vanessa Rudloff during art circuit

NORMAN — The sights of Cuba will be in Norman during a multi-artist photographic exhibition, “Cuba 2014,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Shevaun Williams & Associates Commercial Photography, 221 E. Main St. It is being held in conjunction with the Norman Arts Council’s Second Friday Circuit of Art.

The show follows a group of photographers, including exhibition hosts Shevaun Williams and Vanessa Rudloff, who visited Havana and Trinidad, Cuba, in January. The group was granted special visas to visit the country as part of a cultural exchange.

“The Cuban people are so genuinely warm and hospitable,” Rudloff said. “We went to Cuba on a people-to-people exchange, and that is exactly what I came home with: the people.”

Artistically speaking, Williams said, “Cuba is a labyrinth of streets with a complicated maze of color for a web of interest.”

Other members of the group whose work is to be exhibited are Byron Annis, of La Crosse, Wis.; Darlene Cozby, of Austin; Kristin Kirkley, of Fort Worth, Texas; Barry McNew and Dinah McNew, of Greenville, Texas; and Shanya Smith, of Chicago.

“Cuba 2014” provides an opportunity to meet the photographers and hear stories of their adventures in Cuba.

The exhibition will include a reception with complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres to enhance exhibit-goers’ Cuban cultural experience.
