Fire safety, have two ways out

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Transcript Staff

The theme for Fire Prevention Week this year is “Have Two Ways Out”.

Monday, October 8 marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Week and to raise awareness the Norman Fire Prevention Safety Trailer will be at Walmart located at 333 N. Interstate Drive from Oct. 8-12.

The trailer will provide information concerning this year’s theme, “Have Two Ways Out”. Norman Fire Department Inspectors will be staffing the trailer from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout the week.

“The reality is that when fire strikes, your home could be engulfed in smoke and flames in just a few minutes,” states a NFD press release. “It Is important to have a hope fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds.”

If the first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames, having a second way out is a key part of a family or individual’s plan. This year’s theme focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice.
