NORMAN — On Saturday, downtown McAlester will be the place to cruise, “just like back in the old days,” organizers say.
Saturday is McAlester Cruise Night, according to Brent Bundy, president of Mac Cruizers Car Club.
“We just cruise around like us old guys did back in the ’60s, when gas was cheap,” Bundy said.
Bundy will take part, driving his 1922 Model T roadster.
“The cruise night is just a fun event that promotes community involvement and shows off the cars,” he said. “Everyone brings down their special-interest vehicles and drives around the downtown route.”
Bundy said people usually line the streets in lawn chairs or sit on tailgates, “just like they do at the parades.”
He said the Big Mac Cruizers club can usually be found hanging out in front of the OKLA Theater.
The cruise route begins on Choctaw Avenue in front of the OKLA Theater, then heads west to Sixth Street. The route then heads south on Sixth to Wyandotte Avenue, where it heads back west to Main Street and north back to Choctaw Avenue.
