Girlfriend attempts jail break for burglary suspect

NORMAN — After attempting to break her juvenile boyfriend out of a detention center, who allegedly burglarized OU football coach Bob Stoops’ home, a Tuttle woman spent her 20th birthday in jail.

Paige Nicole Murray, 20, bonded out of jail on a $15,000 bond Monday. She was charged with a felony in Cleveland County District Court last week for assisting a prisoner to escape in concert with four other juveniles.

Murray was arrested and taken into custody July 2 when she and the four juveniles attempted the break-in at the A.J. Couch Center.

In an interview with police, Murray said her boyfriend asked her to help him break out of the facility. The boyfriend told her and the four other juveniles to cut the fence at the detention side of the facility around 8 p.m. so he could escape, according to the affidavit filed with the charge.

“Paige stated that she became excited about the plan and agreed,” the affidavit said.

She and the four juveniles then grabbed a pair of hedge trimmers to cut the fence, drove to the A.J. Couch Center and parked near the back. Murray gave bandannas to the three male juveniles in an attempt to conceal their identities by wearing them over their faces, the affidavit said.

Murray then dropped the three males off and left with the other female juvenile to “get gas,” according to the affidavit. When they returned,Norman police patrol cars were in front of the facility.

A detention center employee told law enforcement she saw a subject peeking his or her head around the corner of the building while she was taking out water. The individual then climbed back over the fence and ran away. She also found a pair of hedge cutters near the building where she had seen the subject, the affidavit said.
