NORMAN — Several local businesses are organizing The Ride (aka United We Ride) on July 27 to benefit the United Way of Norman.

The event was initiated by First American Bank and is co-sponsored by Sooner Mall and Bramlett & Associates Multimedia and will take place at Safety Town on the Sooner Mall property.

The Ride is a Big Wheel race for riders aged 3-8 and for kids with special needs aged 3-12. Participants will be responsible for decorating a Big Wheel bike and providing a rider to race the bike July 27.

Races will be divided by age group, gender and special needs. There will be a winner for the best decorated Big Wheel and for race winners. All participating children will receive a medal.

The Norman Fire Department and Norman Police Department will be in attendance and host activities. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office will conduct fingerprinting for kids. Music is being provided by Nexus Productions, SportsTalk 1400 will broadcast live from the event and Earnie the Eagle will be in attendance.

Both businesses and individuals are invited to sponsor a Big Wheel. The $50 registration fee is due July 19 and will go to the United Way of Norman.

Registration is available online or via mail.

Visit bankfab.com/the-ride to register online or to download forms. Registration forms also are available at any First American Bank banking center.

A limited number of scholarships to cover the cost of participation is available. Those interested in scholarships should contact Suzanne McAuley at 366-3223.
