Harris, Storm named Rotary students of the month

NORMAN — Savannah Harris and Jackson Storm have been named as November students of the month by the Norman Rotary Club.

Harris, a senior at Norman North with a 3.9 GPA, is the daughter of Jeff Harris. She is active in Student Council, Teen Volunteers, Gems, Rotary Interact, the National Honor Society, Key Club, the student newspaper and Tapp.

A former soccer player, she works as an athletic trainer and has been involved with Link Crew.

She said working with fellow students on SPUD week has been an amazing part of her high school volunteer experience.

“As an active student in my school, I have had the pleasure of being a strong part of our yearly, community-wide fundraiser,” she wrote. “I spend my entire spring break week at Norman North decorating the hallways with an abundance of paper and painted decoratives, and I love it.”

She has received the President’s Award for Academic Achievement and the Susan B. Anthony Award for volunteerism. Harris is considering attending the University of Oklahoma, Duke University and New York University.

Storm, the son of John and Susan Storm, has a 4.0 GPA. He is president of the Medical Explorer Post 901 and is a member of the Rotary Interact Club, the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society.

He is an AP scholar and attended the Rotary RYLA Camp and the Oklahoma Entrepreneur Camp. Storm has been a member of the Sooner Swim Club and NHS swim teams.

Storm is a volunteer stretcher team member at OU football games and is an assistant soccer coach for the Norman Youth Soccer Association.

Storm said he has gained leadership skills through his involvement with Rotary Interact Club at NHS.

“The purpose of Rotary is to serve others, thus the motto ‘service above self.’ As I have seen through the acts of many Rotarians, being a leader means serving your community unconditionally, without expecting recognition or reward.”

Storm is considering attending OU, Bowdoin College, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Chicago and Brown University.

The students meet weekly for lunch with the club. They are eligible for a year-end scholarship. The club, chartered in 1919, is Norman’s oldest civic club. Meetings are at noon Thursdays at the First Christian Church.
