NORMAN — Cleveland Elementary School will celebrate its 50th anniversary Thursday with events for teachers, students, parents and alumni.
An assembly for faculty alumni at 9 a.m. will kickoff the celebration. Faculty alumni can view displays made by each grade level honoring a different decade. Bill Sullivan, Cleveland’s first principal, will be in attendance, and all alumni will get a sneak peak of the school’s new marquee.
The celebration will get going with a family fun night starting at 5:30.
Activities will include a dunk tank featuring OU men’s gymnastic team members, school tours and school memorabilia including yearbooks on display in the gym.
Vendors, including Pizza Hut and Chick-fil-a, will have food available for sale.
The unveiling of a new marquee will be a highlight of the evening. The marquee was made available to the school through PTA fundraising.
Cleveland Elementary principal Ty Bell said he was very excited for Thursday.
“We’ve been planning for the anniversary for about two and a half years,” Bell said. “I’m really looking forward to the event.”
A fireworks display will conclude the evening.
