Polls to open for special election

NORMAN — Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the City of Moore Special Election.

Eligible voters who want to vote early are encouraged to utilize early or in-person absentee voting at the County Election Board office, 641 E. Robinson St. in Norman, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The vote is for approval for the continued franchise of OG&E to distribute electricity in the city and maintain poles, wires, conduits and other facilities and equipment in the public rights of way.

The franchise is approved by voters every 25 years.

In return for the franchise, OG&E pays Moore 3 percent of the gross revenues arising from the sale of electricity within the city limits.

“That’s a key revenue source for our general fund,” Finance Director Jim Corbett said. “It generates about $1.2 million per year.”

Cleveland County Election Board Secretary Jim Williams reminded voters to bring identification that conforms to the Voter ID law.

Voters may use their Voter Identification Card as proof of identity. Other identification used to prove identity must be issued by the State of Oklahoma, the federal government or a federally recognized Indian tribe or nation.

No other types of identification will be accepted at polling places. State law requires voters to prove their identity before they are allowed to vote. Those with no identification will not be allowed to vote in the special election.

Documents, other than a Voter ID card, used for proof of identity must include your name, which must match the name on your voter registration record, a photograph of you and an expiration date that is later than Election Day.

Voters who need a Temporary Voter Identification Card may obtain one at the Cleveland County Election Board located at 641 E. Robinson St., Suite 200, Norman.

Voters who are unsure of where they should go to vote may look up their polling place online at clevelandcountyelectionboard.com by using the polling place locator provided.

Voters also may contact the Election Board at 366-0210.
