NORMAN — Norman police identified the victim from Monday’s three-vehicle wreck on Highway 9 as Cadence Gordon, 8, of Norman.

Gordon was a passenger in a Ford Explorer along with Christy Amos, 29, and Christina Francis, 33, both of Norman. Police said one of the individuals in the vehicle was Gordon’s mother.

Francis and Amos were transported to OU Medical Center by EMSStat where they remain hospitalized in stable condition. Gordon was transported from the scene by an air ambulance to the OU Medical Center where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Three individuals from Harrah also suffered injuries from the accident. The occupants of the involved Dodge Ram were identified as Christopher Mullendore, 43, Susan Mullendore, 43, and Leanna Mullendore, 13.

All three were transported to Norman Regional Hospital by EMSStat where they were treated for their injuries and later released.

The driver of the involved Ford Escape was not injured in the collision and was arrested by Norman Police on complaints of first-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence causing great bodily harm.

She was identified as Kimberly Wenthold, 29, of Slaughterville.

Police said Wenthold’s vehicle traveled left of center which started a series of events involving the two other vehicles killing the 8-year-old girl and leaving five others injured.

Emergency crews responded to the Labor Day wreck at approximately 2:49 p.m. on State Highway 9, east of 168th Avenue Southeast.

Highway 9 was closed for approximately five hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation also responded to the scene to assist with patient care, traffic control, and repairing the road surface.

The collision remains under investigation by the Norman and University of Oklahoma Police Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team.
