Sarkeys Foundation awards grants to Okla. nonprofits

NORMAN — The trustees of the Norman-based Sarkeys Foundation approved 35 grants to nonprofits in Oklahoma totaling $1,190,860, including the largest grant of $300,000 to Domestic Violence Intervention Services in Tulsa toward construction of a new shelter.

The recipients include two Norman entities: Mary Abbott Children’s House facility expansion and renovation, $50,000, and NAIC-Norman Addiction Information & Counseling, electronic health records system, $23,000.

Since its founding in 1962, Sarkeys has awarded more than $93 million to 1,809 nonprofits through grants for education, social services, arts and culture, health care and medical research, and environmental projects. 

Nonprofits have the option of completing one of two grant applications for amounts of $10,000 and below or more than $10,000.

Grants include: Calm Waters Center for Children and Families, $25,000; Camp Fire — Green Country Council, $24,360; CASA of Oklahoma County, $35,000; Child Abuse Network, $20,000; Christian Helping Hands of Comanche, $10,000; Crosstown Learning Center, $20,000; Daily Living Centers, $20,000; Domestic Violence Intervention Services, $300,000; Family Builders, $45,000; Hospice of Green Country, $35,000; Iron Gate, $30,000; Junior Achievement of  Oklahoma, $10,000; Katheryne B. Payne Education Center, $30,000; KIPP Tulsa Academy College Preparatory, $20,000; Lilyfield, $25,000; Neighborhood Alliance, $8,000; Northwest Domestic Crisis Services, $10,000; Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled, $20,000; Rebuilding Together Oklahoma City, $30,000; Redeeming the Family, $8,500; Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, $27,000; Safenet Services,  $50,000; San Miguel School, $30,000; The Silence Foundation, $10,000; Southeastern Foundation, $50,000; Special Care, $50,000; Street School, $20,000; Teen Court, $5,000; Teen Recovery Solutions, $50,000; Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, $20,000; Tulsa Lawyers for Children, $40,000; The Urban Mission, $30,000; YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, $10,000.
