Man charged in alleged assault on police

Transcript Staff

A Moore man was arrested on assault charges Wednesday, after allegedly telling an arresting officer he had a gun and was going to kill him, police said.

Instead of a gun, the officer reportedly saw the man pull a wallet out of his back pocket, and refrained from firing his own pistol.

Brent Allen Jones, 25, was charged Friday with assault and battery upon a police officer; and two counts of throwing body waste upon a government employee.

According to an affidavit by arresting Moore Police Officer Jason Landrum, Landrum was dispatched 11:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of Northeast 12th Street, where Jones was running from the scene of a fight. Landrum said Jones ran from police, then stopped, faced Landrum, put his hand behind his back and said he had a gun.

"I drew my firearm and the defendant stated 'I'm going to (expletive) kill you,'" Landrum said.

Landrum said he saw Jones pull out a wallet and not a gun. The defendant began moving toward Landrum in an aggressive manner, and Landrum said he deployed his Taser. Jones "fought (the effects of) the Tase, and punched me in the face," Landrum said.

Jones allegedly punched and kicked Landrum, and spat in the face of two officers while he was being handcuffed.

Other felonies filed Friday include:

· Walter Scott Lemones, 37, Noble, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous drug;

· William Austin Carrell, 33, Noble, knowingly concealing stolen property, after former conviction of a felony;

· Randall Dewayne Foster, 41, Norman, unlawful possession of a controlled drug within 1,000 feet of a park; feloniously carrying a firearm;

· Thomas Patrick Tripp, 26, Noble, domestic abuse;

· Alexander Jarel Austin-Hoffman, 19, Norman, second degree burglary (residential).
