NORMAN — Church members gather for annual Christmas ceremony
Members of First Baptist Church clapped and cheered as the Christmas tree in front of the church lit up Sunday at 211 W. Comanche St.
The church gathered Sunday night for their annual lighting ceremony, singing Christmas songs and listening to church member Matt Robinson talk about the nearing holiday.
“I’m so glad to have everybody here,” said Joey Armstrong, university minister of First Baptist Church.
One of the stories Robinson told in between Christmas songs included his family, in particular his young daughter who was caught grabbing an ornament off their Christmas tree.
“We have a ‘no touching the tree’ rule at our house,” he said.
When he caught his daughter with the ornament, he thought they would have to have the talk about the rule again. However, she said she knew she wasn’t supposed to touch the tree, but “Chippy,” the magical elf that lives at their house in December, couldn’t see the Christ child. She had been holding up an ornament of baby Jesus lying in the manger so Chippy could see him. Robinson said he hopes the Christ child is seen by many throughout the season this year.
