NORMAN — The Cleveland County Courthouse and all U.S. Post Offices will be closed for the Columbus Day holiday today.
Cleveland County Commissioners will meet 9 a.m., Tuesday because of the holiday. Commissioners meet weekly in Room 200 of the County Office Building, 201 S. Jones Ave., Norman.
The city of Norman will be open for business as usual. Norman Public Schools and the University of Oklahoma also will conduct classes as normal.
Columbus Day commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. It became a federal holiday in 1937.
The next federal holiday is Veterans Day on Nov. 11. November is one of only two months with two federal holidays. Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 24 this year, is the other.
