Auditions open for ‘Nutcracker’ ballet

NORMAN — The Norman Ballet Company will host auditions for its production of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker,” as well as company members and apprentices, on Saturday at the Kovich School of Ballet, 1312 S. Berry Road.

To reserve an audition space or for audition inquiries, contact Norman Ballet Company Artistic Director Marjorie Kovich at All dancers must request an audition confirmation to reserve a space in the appropriate audition group. Include the dancer’s height in the request.

There will be three separate audition groups; children will be placed according to size in each group. The audition application form, arrival time and other pertinent information will be sent via email. Reserve a spot no later than Friday.

There is a $10 audition fee per dancer — payable by check, money order (payable to the Norman Ballet Company), debit or credit card. Cash cannot be accepted.

Children are selected according to size, musicality, expression, ability to follow directions and dance skills. To be eligible to audition, the dancer’s birthdate must be no later than Oct. 1, 2006. 

Actors with dance skills also are needed for roles as the Nutcracker Prince, Mouse King, parents in the party scene and other Act I acting roles. Ballet experience is not required for these roles.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of “The Oklahoma Nutcracker.” Guest artists from the Tulsa Ballet are scheduled to appear in the leading roles of the Sand Plum Fairy and her prince.

The ballet will be performed 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Nancy O’Brian Center for the Performing Arts.
