NORMAN — The Pioneer Library System is putting out a call to find the region’s most talented performers interested in entertaining and educating audiences in hometown libraries.

A big step in that process is the library system’s annual Presenters’ Showcase, which takes place Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, at the Noble Public Library, 204 N. 5th St.

Presenters for children’s programs are invited to participate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17, while presenters for teen or adult programs will perform from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18.

If selected to participate in the showcase, each presenter will have a 15-minute timeslot to give an informational performance. The audience will include PLS librarians as well as representatives from other library systems, schools and recreation centers who will be invited.

While the showcase is interested in presenters starting their careers, this is not an amateur show. All applicants are expected to have some previous experience with audiences in schools, libraries or other similar locations.

Several performers from the 2013 Summer Reading Program and those who have been selected already for the 2014 Summer Reading Program by PLS staff came through auditions from previous years’ showcases.

The showcase primarily is seeking prospective performers for the 2015 and 2016 Summer Reading Program tour, although there also will be consideration for programs at other times of the year, including the 2014 Summer Reading Program and possible opportunities with individual libraries.

While it’s not required, being able to show how a performance would tie into an upcoming Summer Reading theme would be helpful. Upcoming themes are: 2014, Science; 2015, Heroes; and 2016, Health/Fitness/Sports.

Applications to take part in the Presenters’ Showcase are due by Sept. 30. More information, including a link to the application, is available online at pioneer.lib.ok.us/pls/111-Press/5147-presenters-program-application.

Inquires also may be made to Galyn Hembree, coordinator for system programming for the Pioneer Library System, at 701-2674 or gcresap@pls.lib.ok.us.
