NORMAN — Norman police officers arrested a man Saturday night after he left his car on the train tracks near the railroad crossing at Tecumseh Road.
Derick Ray Mellican was arrested and booked into Cleveland County Justice Center on complaints of public intoxication, obstruction of a railroad and trespassing on railroad property.
Police said Mellican’s vehicle was northbound, stopped on the railroad tracks when a northbound Amtrak passenger train struck the vehicle around 10 p.m. on Saturday. The vehicle had been driving on the railroad tracks when Mellican stopped and exited the vehicle prior to the impact.
Mellican was transported by EMSStat to Norman Regional Hospital and was treated and released before he was booked into jail.
