MNT board approves 5 new hirees

NORMAN — To keep the school year moving smoothly, Moore Norman Technology Center board members met for a regular board meeting Thursday night.

Besides approving routine agenda items, the board also approved five full-time employment positions, as well as the resignation of two administrative positions.

Moore Norman Tech will welcome a new director of long-term programs, Terri Helvey, an evening campus supervisor, Jim Belcher, a marketing outreach coordinator, Ida Yanez-Fryhover, an assessment center assistant, Robert Potts, and a custodian, Michael Canfield. It will say goodbye to Sheila Martin, administrative assistant, and Meleah Meadows, assistant director.

Additionally, due to the board’s approval, students can look forward to new technology in their classrooms. The board approved the purchase of 29 new Dell computers , totaling $31,916 for BIS training at the Franklin Road campus.

The board also approved the purchase of a Lincoln 360 VRTEX virtual welding trainer for $50,744 from Gas and Supply.

The virtual welding trainer will allow students to put on a helmet and “weld” in varying environments. Students can look into their virtual welds and have a professor review them. Part of the purchase price — $49,000 — will be paid for with lottery grant funds given to the Oklahoma Department of Career Technology.

Finally, the board approved agenda items such as a revised budget for Fiscal Year 2014, audit services contracts and food service contracts.

The board approved all remaining agenda items before moving to executive session to discuss authorizing the filing of a lawsuit against US Integration Inc.
