NORMAN — State Sen. Constance Johnson will speak at the Tyner Cornbread and Beans luncheon on Friday. She will present her take on women’s health issues and prison reform in Oklahoma.
A native Oklahoman, Sen. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of arts degree in French. In addition, she holds a masters degree in rehabilitation counseling from Langston University.
She is a 33 year veteran of the Oklahoma legislative process. She served as legislative staff for 24 years and is in her eighth year of service as a senator from Oklahoma City’s District 48.
Johnson is a member of the Appropriations Committee as well as the Health and Human Service, Energy, Finance and Rules standing committees.
She is the 2012 recipient of the Oklahoma Democratic Party’s Opio Toure Statesman of the Year Award.
The luncheon will be held at Catering Creations, 3750 W. Main St., and is sponsored by the Cleveland County Democratic Party.
The luncheon begins at 11:15 a.m. with the speaker beginning about noon. Guests can select lunch from Catering Creations’ mini-buffet. The meeting is open to the public.
Murphy will speak at GOP Luncheon
Linda Murphy, a certified educator, will speak on the Common Core Curriculum at the Cleveland County GOP Lunch Club at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Joy’s Palace, 300 E. Main St. Cost is $12.
Murphy was appointed to the Governor’s School-to-Work Council, the State Job Training Coordinating Council and the Commission on the Status of Women.
