NORMAN — Francis Tuttle’s Pre-Engineering Academy will host its fourth annual First Lego League tournament free to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Bruce Gray Center on the Portland campus.
Twenty-two elementary and middle school teams from across the metro will participate in the competition. This year’s challenge is Nature’s Fury. The teams will design, build and program robots to look at what can be done when natural disasters impact communities. The teams will also compete to see which robot can complete this year’s challenge.
First Lego League collaborated with organizations such as FEMA, the Red Cross and the National Weather Service to create this year’s theme.
Teams will use the Lego Mindstorms to build, program and test robots and solve a set of natural disaster missions, such as positioning an evacuation sign, clearing an airplanes runway of debris and delivering supplies.
Winners of the Francis Tuttle competition will move on to the championships Dec. 7 in Edmond.
