BLANCHARD -- A Blanchard family recently announced they will open their home for tours to benefit the Blanchard Public Schools Education Foundation. Martha and Kenney Stevens have recently built an approximately 7,000-square-foot home in downtown Blanchard. The Stevens have been long time residents of Blanchard. Prior to building their home, Kenney Stevens has served as a city council member. They began making their dream home a reality as they began the construction process in July 2006. The house took a year to build. Special features of the home are murals painted throughout the house by artist Rick Knight, ceiling heights of 22 feet in some areas, white oak hand scraped hardwood floors, wrought iron throughout the house and an elevator. The house includes four bedrooms, an exercise room, office, theatre room, utility room with a universal craft center, sewing center, wrapping center and laundry room while having only one living area and one indoor eating area. All proceeds from the open house will benefit the foundation. The open house is scheduled 1 to 5 p.m. June 7. There will be a free shuttle service departing every 10 minutes from the parking lot of First Baptist Church, 919 N.E. 10th St., in Blanchard. Tickets cost $10. In respect of the homeowners, BPSEF has placed guidelines to include no children under the age of 12; no cameras, and no food and drinks are allowed. Tickets are available at First National Bank -- Trust, Legacy Bank, The Blanchard News, Richey Insurance and Tag Agency, Century 21 Lawson and Jones Real Estate, all in Blanchard plus Country Temptations in Warr Acres, The Enchanted Cottage in Newcastle and CDS Designs in Oklahoma City and Theo's in Norman. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will benefit those interests that support local public education and have a direct effect on students in the classroom through Grants-to-Teachers and scholarships to graduating seniors.
