  • Norman Day 2009
    Hot dog -- it's the Fourth of July and time for the Norman Day Celebration, beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday and presented by the Norman Parks -- Recreation Department.
    Norman Recreation Superintendent Jeff Hill said everything is in place for Norman Day festivities and holiday food provisions, including hot dogs, chopped brisket, pulled pork sandwiches and hot link sandwiches, funnel cakes, corn dogs, nachos, fries, cheese frees and fried cheese-on-a-stick.

  • OKC man drowns in Lake Thunderbird
    An Oklahoma City man drowned late Thursday or early Friday near the Hog Creek boat ramp at Lake Thunderbird.
    The victim was identified as Johnny Ray Montoya, 36, an Hispanic Oklahoma City resident.
    According to Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Proctor, Montoya went into the lake sometime between 11:30 p.

  • Exhibit looks at New Deal
    A new exhibit at the Carl Albert Center will look at effects of the New Deal in Oklahoma during the Great Depression.
    After the crash of the stock market on Oct. 29, 1929, Americans found themselves in the worst economic times in United States history.

  • Sarkeys Foundation gives Oklahoma nonprofits over $1.1 million
    Sarkeys Foundation Executive Director Kim Henry has announced the Foundation's 2009 grant awards in the amount of $1,186,054 to assist a variety of Oklahoma nonprofits, including several Norman organizations.

  • Altrusa Club donates camp scholarships
    The Altrusa Club of Norman recently donated two Camp Scholarships to the Little River Zoo Junior ZooKeeper Summer Camp. The scholarships will benefit two children, ages 8 and 10, from the East Main Place homeless facility to enjoy a fun week of incredible experience hiking along the trails and interacting with a variety of animals.

  • Westwood Golf Course to offer citizens' appreciation day
    Westwood Golf Course is hosting Citizens Appreciation Day, a new program to thank the many citizens who continue to support the course and are loyal players at Westwood.

    The following felonies were filed in Cleveland County District Court:
    · Pamela Jo Baldwin, 42, Norman, conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny of merchandise from a retailer;
    · Sterling Carrol Morris, 23, two counts of second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property;
    · Finis Brownie Twohatchet, 40, Moore, first-degree murder.

  • Moore doctor sentenced to 9 years in jail
    OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Moore doctor was sentenced to nine years and one month in federal prison for illegal distribution of prescription drugs this week.
    Prosecutors said Can D. Phung wrote prescriptions for painkillers without physically examining patients and saw some patients just in the clinic's lobby, according to testimony.

    Officials with the Pioneer Library System said Cleveland County public libraries are offering plenty of teen-related activities during July with Pioneer's "Express Yourself," special events and programs.

  • Prosecutors say Moore man killed girlfriend
    A Moore man is being held on a $1 million bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center for allegedly killing his girlfriend inside an apartment that the two shared, according to court records.
    Cleveland County prosecutors charged Finis Brownie Twohatchet, 40, Wednesday with first-degree murder.

  • Mother remembers son who took his life
    Vicke French remembers her son Aaron Michael French as a child who could make the entire family laugh with his Jim Carrey impersonations.
    "He could do Jim Carrey impersonations better than Jim Carrey," French said.

  • Organizers plan another 'tea party'
    Organizers of a group opposed to the Obama administration say they are planning an Independence Day rally at the state Capitol.
    Patty McAlister said she and others will host the Sooner Tea Party rally at 10 a.
