PFLAG Norman will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 1801 W. Brooks St. in Room 11. The group meets the second Thursday of every month and meetings are open to the public.

"The holidays can be an emotional time for many families for many reasons. In regard to having a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered (GLBT) member, a family may have struggled with who to share that knowledge with among extended family or friends, or been stressed about meeting their child's same-sex partner for the first time, or been conflicted among themselves about their comfort and acceptance of the sexual orientation or gender identity of their GLBT family member," a PFLAG spokesperson said.

"After the holidays can be a good time to reflect on what feelings surprised us or the issues that arose. And PFLAG meetings are a safe place to share them, for the family or the GLBT person. We all hope for happy family gatherings but change is unsettling and sometimes it takes work to get to the point of respect and inclusion we want."

PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a support, education, and advocacy organization with affiliates located in close to 500 communities in the United States and abroad.
